Memorial Day Weekend Fun!

Lindsay and her family came down for the weekend to visit with us and enjoy the Pax River Air Show. We had a pretty darned good time, fishing and watching the Blue Angels perform and then returning to the house for a little cookout. It was nice to have their family there with us, and it was just another reminder that I really look forward to having a family with Mircea. On Sunday we actually went over to the Air Show to walk around, but I learned that 6 year olds have the attention span of a flea, so we only walked around for an hour and then headed off to lunch. Lunch, which happened to be Mexican, which happened to be my FOURTH time going to the Mexican joint this week. (And yet, I still lost weight on WW so I guess you can eat what you want, or what makes sense at the time). We rarely go out to eat, but I had all kinds of stuff this week with friends and Mexican was the easiest choice. And I never had the same thing twice and was happy every time!!

I have been such a bad blogger lately. I've been pretty busy at work and school (finals this week), and I haven't been focusing on fun as of late. I did post on my other blog about the fitness changes and goals I have for the next several months. I really need to get back to the "old Kate" because this Kate of girth and wideness is the Kate that I enjoy or respect.

I'm going to participate in a walk this weekend, so that will give me a little motivation. I'm meeting a friend of mine (Nikki) that I met last year at another race. We hit it off really well and may start exercising together on the weekends (we live about 45 minutes away from each other but there are good outdoor places in between.)

Lindsay spent the night on Friday, and we had a great time watching the Girls Next Door and playing the Wii. We also had fun making fun of Mircea, who came home after a night of drinking with a friend and acted like a nut job. A good time was had by all and I can't wait to see Lindsay again-I'm going to take advantage of the 3 years that she's in DC!

Other than that, things are going well. Tomorrow is the anniversary of my first date with Mircea. I can't believe it's already been a year since I denied him that first kiss on our date. Dream on boy!!! We're not going out tomorrow because I have my precious bowling league, but we're going to go out on Friday, for dinner, and probably go home and play Wii or watch a movie.

An update on our little Stinky/Squeaky. Her tumor is getting bigger and bigger, and she is really pretty unhappy. She doesn't appear to be in pain, but she is definitely not enjoying life as much as she used to. We're just giving her lots of hugs and cuddles, but we both agree that her time is getting pretty short.

The other cats are all happy and healthy. Yukie is enjoying his time outside. He has a little gray "friend" out there, that I have seen him fight with, but whom I've also seen him eating with, so Lord knows their relationship. He's taken to spraying in the house, though, so he may be spending a lot of time outside. Fernie and Lily are cute as ever. Both of those little furbabies have been playing under the Christmas tree and cuddling up on our new warm blankets. Silly girls!!

Ok, that's way more than I've written in a long time, but I'll have a recipe tomorrow and more to post soon.

I'm Baaaaaack!

It has been a long three weeks out of the office and today was a day for catching up and trying to organize my life. 400 emails later, I'm finally able to address some of the issues, but thought I'd take a little lunch break and update my wonderful friends on the happenings. There are a lot of topics to write about, but the main one is my roadtrip to pick up Yukon this past weekend. On Saturday afternoon, I went up to Lindsay's house and after a day of shopping we retired early so we could get up at the "ass-crack" of dawn. We left her house at 5 am and drove the 600 miles to Ohio to pick up Yukon. After a yummy lunch at Skyline Chili, we put the big boy in the car and headed home. My favorite quote of the second leg of our trip was "You know, I don't want to complain, but I think I have more fur on me then Yukon does." I looked over and Lindsay and she was, indeed, covered in fur from head to toe. It was so gross, and so so so so funny. Yukon was in love with us, so happy to have the attention, and just a sweetheart. That is until last night. I brought him home on Monday (after sleeping over at Lindsay's again) and he has a new crush. He is in love with his Daddy. And Mircea is in love with him. I can't pull them away from each other. They were cuddling all night long and Yukon got two kisses goodbye this morning (and I only got one). I'm so jealous of their man-boy love. I'll post some pictures later. I don't have my camera here at work. Watch for more updates!!!

When it Rains, it Pours

I've been having some tooth trouble lately, and I was told at my last cleaning that I needed a crown and a filling on two of my back teeth. Although I'm not made of money and my insurance doesn't cover it, I decided to go for it. This was last Thursday. Well, on Monday I was experiencing such severe pain in my mouth that I was throwing up. The whole left side of my face is hurting. So I went to the dentist yesterday who told me that the tooth he just filled needs a root canal. Great! So I'm having an emergency root canal this afternoon, which should be grand. And expensive! I'd do just about anything to make this pain go away though-it really sucks. I'm a little nervous about the confrontation I'll be having with my dentist though-after the root canal I'll need another filling in that tooth. I shouldn't have to pay for that, right? Since he didn't see that I needed the root canal when he did it the first time, I think it should be their responsibility since the filling isn't even a week old. Thoughts?

In great news, Miss Lindsay is moving to DC. I'm so excited I can hardly stand it, but I will not get myself all pumped up until she's actually in the tri-state region as I couldn't handle the disappointment if she wasn't here. I'm so happy happy happy happy that she's coming!!!!! Now if I can just get Patty to move here...

Things are still going well for Mr. Mircea and myself. We've integrated the cats and even though they stay in their own parts of the house and hiss all the time, they are getting better. There has been no blood shed, and that's what I like the best. I'll post some pictures of those silly girls-they really are terribly cute. We're participating in the Run for Hospice this weekend, but I am not even sure we'll run; there is a walking option. I'm so out of shape, he's so out of shape, and I'm in so much pain I can't imagine running, but we'll see. We'll definitely show up and walk it if we don't try to run.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. I officially have a week off from school until next semester, when I take the "Advanced Analytical Methods" course and "Dept. of Homeland Security" course, which is very interesting. Required reading is the 9/11 Commission report and it is damned interesting so far.
