Birthday Update: Saturday

On Saturday, we continued my awesome birthday weekend with a visit to St. Clements Island. We took the boat out to the island and realized that we were the only ones there and it was just so cool. We had a picnic lunch (of sushi that I'd made earlier-he got salmon and unagi, and I had avocado rolls) and then napped under a tree by the water. Then we noticed our awesome island was no longer ours and some other boats came out. We swam in the water for a little bit and then we were invited to join the opening day of the St. Clements Island lighthouse, which is so new I can't find anything on the web about it. It was pretty neat but the pictures were doing something weird so I only have these. And one that I'll share in another post.

This cross is HUGE...not as big as Mt. Soledad, but still cool. In October there is a pretty cool even on the island too. It's called "the blessing of the fleet" and a priest blesses the boats that come to the river for the blessing. Very cool!

Birthday Update: Friday

I have many stories from my birthday and I will seperate them into several posts because it really was an eventful weekend. Since I don't have my camera with me to upload the photos, I'll update you on Friday, which was the least eventful of the days and there aren't any pictures from it anyway.

The day I turned 28 was a good one. I woke up early, snuggled with the kitties, and got ready for my MRI appointment. Let me tell you, I was lucky that it was just my knee because even that was pretty uncomfortable, sitting still for 40 minutes or so (while I was reading my book, so it wasn't all bad) while my knee did this weird involuntary twitching. They made me a cool cd to take to my doctor and I looked at it but it doesn't mean anything to me. Hopefully it will just be like "here, pop a pill and you'll be all better" but I really don't see that happening. It will probably be "there is nothing wrong with you, you shouldn't be feeling pain". But the MRI isn't the fun part of the morning. The fun part was me driving to the MRI, which I did in a sort of silent reflection on my life (with music blaring in the background). I am finally feeling good. I think that time in the cottage was good for me. I feel like I'm willing to try new things, I've got some confidence back, I feel healthier, and I just feel content. I'm trying my best at work everyday, I have great friends, and life is just good. So I sort of felt the sunshine on me that morning and it felt good. I'm vowing to worry less and have more fun with my life, so that should be good if I can follow through. I certainly did this weekend!!

The rest of Friday didn't go exactly was planned. We'd taken the boat out on Thursday only to realize that there was an issue with the engine. Which threatned to thwart our Saturday plans. So Mircea called around and the $4 part that we needed could only be purchased in Baltimore. That's right, BALTIMORE! He got out of work at lunchtime and we drove up the 2 hours to the marina to get the part. And then we turned right back around. We had planned on going to the River Concert Series at St. Mary's College, but the weather was a little stormy and frankly, I wanted to go to Trader Joe's in Annapolis, so that is what we did. We got all kinds of yummy treats, which we broke into for the ride home (who knew two people could eat a huge jar of fantastic green olives on the way home?) and just had a good time enjoying each other's company. We got home and there was a box on the porch...a box of flowers that Mircea had sent to the house for my birthday and that had unfortunately wilted out on the porch because I wasn't there to pick them up. He was like "i had a decision to make, and i figured it was better to go up and have fun in baltimore together". So that's my sweetie!!

Ok, so Friday was mundane, but still fun. Saturday is even better, so just wait. :-)

Oh, and shout out to Sean who sent me an awesome birthday gift. We know each other's Amazon wishlist so well, so it's always easy to please. Thanks again-the soundtrack helped my train of thought and the book will help me with my goal!

An Interesting Couple of Days

First of all, the reason I posted the picture of Yukon was two-fold. He ran away on Saturday night and we didn't find him until yesterday. We spent many days calling his name in the woods, leaving out food (only to find out that we have a raccoon friend) and spending many nights awake being sad that he was gone. I also made several trips to the animal shelter and put up fliers around town. Yesterday, we went on a door-to-door neighborhood canvas, and talked to people and got varying stories on the whereabouts of our baby boy. At one house, this mom and her little girl were talking to me and the little girl said "Well, I saw this kitty at the bus stop this morning. He was headbutting one of the kids in the leg". I asked her where this was and Mircea and I headed over there. There was Tons-of-Fun, just chillin' under a tree, looking as relaxed as could be. That quickly changed as we came towards him and he ran like the dickens off into the woods and eventually this nice little girl said "He just ran under that house". After lots of searching, we found an entrance that was "people sized" to this crawlspace, and Mircea went in to find himself faced with a total of three cats, one of whom was our baby boy. We scooped him up and took him home. He was so sweet in the car, giving kisses and headbutting. I gave him a bath and we just hung out the rest of the night. He was so cuddly! I love that little boy and I'm so glad that he is home. The girls were all ok with him being back, and Fernie was sniffing him like "what in the world is that stench?" Lily is the only one who complains. She has taken to sleeping under my desk...which is about 6 inches off the ground (the little footstool part). She's a weirdo. But all three girls slept with us on Monday night, so it was an interesting couple of days.

Mircea's birthday was Tuesday and we had a good time. His mom had a steamed crab feast at her house for him, and we had a blast. The food was super yummy and great. I'm sort of going backwards in time. On Friday of last week, I finally bought the Prius! I love the car. Love love love love love it! I didn't get gray like I wanted (Fernie colored), but it's white and it's beautiful and it has bluetooth in the car so I look like a crazy person talking to myself but I love it! Love it!!!!!!!!

I hope everyone has a great weekend. I had the worst week I've had in a long time, but I'm on cloud 9 now. Woo hoo!!

Happii Birthday to Mii!

Yesterday was a pretty great day, except for the fact that I had to work, was sick all day, and got kicked out of the swimming pool due to a thunder storm. Other than that, it was awesome! I played beer pong with Robyn, Andrew, Ben, and some other friends, and I was terrible at it, but that's no surprise. Robyn told me that 27 is the physical peak, and that scares me because if this is my peak, I sure don't want to see my valley!

The fun part of the night is when I got home. Mircea gave me my birthday present, which is a Nintendo Wii! I'm very excited and can't wait to set it up (I was too tired last night). Now I'm researching all the games and necessary components, so that is interesting (and expensive). I'm definitely excited b/c I want to play Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree, and Mario Party 8. Woo Woo!!!!! Of course I have to save up my pennies to buy those games, but still, woo woo!!
